AV Installation Swansea Council

The City and County of Swansea Council

A discreet, compact conferencing and camera tracking system was installed within Swansea’s Grade I listed Guild Hall, carefully designed to preserve the historic interior. The solution delivers high-quality audio, automated camera coverage, and seamless presentation capabilities while remaining virtually unobtrusive.

OBJECTIVES

The City and County of Swansea Council consists of 72 councillors representing 36 electoral wards. In 1996, a local government reform saw the district of Swansea merged with parts of the Lliw Valley district, to form a unitary authority under the name of the ‘City and County of Swansea’. The City and County of Swansea now covers over 145 sq mi providing services to over 239,600 people.

REQUIREMENT

The City and County of Swansea Council requested that during the restoration period of the Guild Hall, a complete delegate microphone solution with automatic PTZ cameras and display screens be installed. The council requested the smallest and most discreet unit available to ensure that it would be unobtrusive to the surroundings. The building was originally opened in 1934 and is Grade 1 listed.

SOLUTION

Auditel’s Envoy System was selected due to its ability to be designed to be as compact as possible. As the desks are listed, we were granted permission from the conservation team to fix our compact Envoy unit to the table and to run the required cabling under the desk where the remote fixed loudspeaker was installed.

The actual finished unit size was an impressive L 85mm x W 45mm D 20mm. Auditel installed three of its Audicam units to cover all of the delegate microphones. Audicam automatically PTZs to the live microphone, with footage displayed on two 60” LED screens.

As the walls of the chamber are wood panelled and listed, we designed and manufactured brackets to allow the camera to securely hang down without being screwed into the woodwork. We also installed a laptop input which automatically switches between sources, displaying on the screens. Any audio from the input was also played through each of the individual delegate loudspeakers.
