Conwy County Council
A flexible and space-efficient conferencing system was delivered for Conwy County Council, supporting voting, translation, and adaptable room layouts without compromising the chamber’s appearance. The custom flush-mounted design and integrated technology ensure reliable performance, security, and ease of use in a multi-purpose environment.
OBJECTIVES
Conwy County Council is situated in the North of Wales. The county borough is divided into 38 electoral wards returning 59 councillors.
REQUIREMENT
Conwy County Council needed a new secure, reliable, cost-effective, and flexible microphone conferencing system for their multi-purpose room. The system had to support electronic voting, ID attendance, secure Hard of Hearing assistance, push-to-talk microphones, loudspeakers, and translation.
Since the room layout changes based on meeting type, the system had to adapt seamlessly while maintaining a permanent council chamber appearance. Additionally, due to space constraints, the council required a flush-mounted unit (rather than surface-mounted) at the back of desks to save space.
The solution needed to meet all technical and practical requirements while ensuring functionality and aesthetics.
SOLUTION
Auditel’s IDN Digital Discussion System was chosen as it met all council requirements:
- 3-button voting
- ID card system for attendance tracking
- XLR detachable microphone with ring illumination
Flexible setup for middle desks:
- Two microphones terminated at the end of the desk run, with desks able to be connected as needed, with the last desk linking to a floor box containing VGA/HDMI, USB, CAT5, and power
BLIP2D bilingual translation system installed:
- Translation audio transmitted via existing infrared panels
- Touchscreen control for the operator (mic & voting management)
- Duplicate screen at the chairman’s position for equal control
IDN system benefits:
- Hardwired for maximum security & reliability
- Cost-effective, providing best value for public money
Custom flush-mounted unit designed to fit the 45° slope at the back of desks, compact enough to fit inside a double gang plate
